About making karaoke tracks
A karaoke track is the original recording with the lead vocal removed and everything else left intact: drums, bass, guitars, keys, strings. Commercial karaoke discs are usually re-recorded by session musicians, which is why they often sound slightly wrong. Separating the original gives you the actual production you know.
For singing along, the backing track is what you want. The isolated vocal is useful too: play it back to learn phrasing, or listen to how the original singer handles a line before you try it yourself.
Songs with call-and-response backing vocals are the tricky case. The model treats most sung parts as vocal, so answering lines may disappear along with the lead. Ballads and singer-songwriter material tend to work best.
